The objective of the competition was to build a car park above which an apartment building was to be designed. The design idea was developed around the concept of a wall. An inhabited wall buried towards the upstream part where forty parking spaces were to be organised.
The difficulties of the site, the steep slope and the need to have a pedestrian connection between the upper and lower parts led us to think in terms of levels. Each level has its own specific function: garage entrance, pedestrian exit, entrance to the flats, public park and exit to the street above the plot. The façade of the garage is designed with stone gabions so as to ensure proper ventilation and good exhaust fumes from the cars, thus avoiding the need to install smoke extractors. The construction above is made of wood, from the load-bearing structure to the interior cladding and roofing.
The wood, as well as the materials intended to serve a thermal insulation function, are all naturally derived. The flats have been designed in such a way as to have transverse ventilation. The large roof and the terraces that distribute the flats on the first floor ensure proper sun protection even in the summer months.
